The Congress believes that volunteering is a key component in the success of Big Society.  However, it recognises that the health of ‘structured’ volunteering is intrinsically linked with the health of the voluntary sector itself and that investment in volunteer recruitment and management enables and enhances community capacity.

By working with the Congress, decisions can be made that:

  • Ensure that volunteer health, safety and wellbeing are central to their experience, enabling people to participate and ensure that they can continue to do so.
  • Make available training and development opportunities in order to make the most of this valuable resource.
  • Utilise countywide communication mechanisms promoting volunteering opportunities that have impact and are cost effective.
